Now About That Race.....

6:00 AM this morning I pulled into the Hubbell and Hudson Parking lot just like I usually do. It's a long run day just like usual, and I have been battling my twice annual soft tissue problem-as usual. So I've made some pretty tasty lemonade from my athletic life's latest lemon and have been cycling to my heart's content on Saturdays while my friends and athletes are pounding the pavement. I miss running, but my bike makes it manageable-plus it's nice for quad toning and my pedal stroke is now pretty sweet. But I digress...I miss running.

Today brought an upswing in the healing pendalum as I pulled into the parking lot wearing my running shoes, Brooks Ghost 5's to be exact. Cushioned just right. The run wasn't long, I felt as stiff as the tin woman for most of the 25 minute jaunt, but it was a run nonetheless. Progress is good.

As I took off I realized that I should have just checked my bike in transition and would be preparing to race my first Olympic distance triathlon. But this one was not meant to be. Oddly enough, the latest DNS didn't bother me too much. I had some friends participating today, and hopefully by the time of me writing this they had a good experience out there. I just went about my business, got a little swim in after the run, and indulged in my free latte that I got from the coffee bar. Either I'm getting used to it, or just realizing that this is just part of endurance sport.

I continue to work to put together the puzzle that is a solid training program. Perhaps I won't do an Olympic distance tri this season-or next. I have had the itch to jump to the 70.3 distance, which involves a lot of sub-threshold training this coming April. Regardless, my hope is that the run is coming back. It's time.

Congrats to everyone who raced today. It's just another Saturday for me in the meantime-and that's ok.

Stay the course.

Woot woot for the run coming back! And hey, nothing's wrong with Tin Woman! Embrace her. Haha.

I'm always proud of the way you handle life's little roller coasters.

And thanks for being such a good friend this week. You're one of a kind!

It's easy when it's easy, right? Had a crap 5k yesterday and missed my easy 8 today because I think I might have the flu, it hurts to move everything, even my eyes. BUT what you going to do, give up?! Got to keep on keeping on ;)
Sorry about the missed tri but glad you're back running again. Chin up! I would, only it hurts to move.

I missed seeing you out there at the race, though I had already known you were not going as I'd talked to you previously. Your mindset is right on and that's a good thing, everything else will turn around in time as well.

Hopefully, next time I will see you out on the course instead!

Ah, it won't be long and the Adrienne we love will be donning her lightweight racers instead of the ghosts. :) Sorry you have had to face this battle, but I am happy that you have the cycling and swimming. Nothing works the quads like the bike. We miss you in running though, so don't get too comfortable there.

Sorry you missed your race and are fighting an injury but awesome that you got to run (even like a Tin Woman) :) You are a total rockstar (and a very smart athlete) and I know you will be tearing it up again in no time. Hugs!
